🟢After Waiting So Long, I'm Finally Starting
The first entry in my journal as a writer, editor, and database/workflow enthusiast.
Over the past few weeks, I started fixing up my writing portfolio, which made me revisit some of the articles I’ve written over the years. To my surprise — and honestly, something I rarely do — I felt proud of myself. I could clearly see how I’ve learned to write concise articles that communicate their intent simply and clearly, without jargon.
Even though I don’t often admit it, I think I struggle with imposter syndrome — especially because I’m not from an English-speaking country. Despite having a fairly strong command of English (in both writing and speaking), and having encountered so many words, styles, and voices over the years, I still sometimes feel like I’m not “enough.”
That fear might be one reason I haven’t consistently published here or on Medium. But if I’m being honest, the real reason is procrastination. I didn’t even plan to write this piece. I just got a Substack notification this morning and thought, I should put something up.
One type of article I never thought I could write in a unique way was how-tos, because they often seem too generic. But then I stumbled on one I did: “How to Split Screen on Android: 2 Proven Ways.” It made me rethink that belief. I wrote it while working with TechPP, one of the few places where I truly had creative freedom. My editor would either assign topics or let me pitch my own ideas and gave me space to work my magic and always offered thoughtful feedback.
But things changed. Google’s updates started affecting SEO and site rankings — you probably know how that story goes.
This year, I decided to learn a hard skill, something I’ve never done before. Writing has kept both my hands (and, frankly, my pockets) full since the beginning of my career. But I feel now’s the right time to add something new to my toolkit.
I’ve started learning Database Management and Automation — and it turns out, I really enjoy it! I’ve always loved creating, but until now, most of my creative work has been through writing: reviews, how-tos, explainers, news. With this new skill, I feel like I can actually build things. And that excites me.
This journal is my way of documenting that journey.
